DRC Adoption

We are a family saved by grace,
and grown by adoption.
Our family tries to follow God's call and do his will, whatever that may be.
We love camping -well, ok, RVing -, having family movie nights, spending time together, and having our morning Bible times.

Here is the story of the Gilbarte family:
My parents started dating in 1996, and tied the knot a year later.
They both had a love for children and strong desire to start a family.
They became licensed foster parent in 1998, and continued into 2001.
I made my entrance, 6 weeks early, in 1999.
When I was 2 years old, and Brandon was on the way, my parents decided to take a take a break from foster care for a bit.
Brandon was born in 2002,
and David was born in 2005.

We enjoyed being a family of 5, and went on several big adventures, including a 3 month cross-country RV trip.
As happy as we were with our family,
my parent felt that we weren't done growing, and I couldn't have been happier!
We began our adoption journey in January of 2012, and brought Kaden and Bethany home in October of that year.
Though the wait was short, it felt like forever, and had it's share of ups and downs, including a painful loss of referral.

At the beginning of our journey,
we prayed and searched and prayed some more about what county to adopt from,
eventually decided on the Democratic Republic of Congo.
We started our home study, full of excitement and expectations.
And then we were overjoyed, surprised and delighted to receive a referral for a four year old girl, and a seven month old boy even before we finished our home study.(read about it here)
We were beyond excited, and eagerly looked forward to the day we would meet them.
We set up rooms.  We bought clothes.   We prayed and dreamed about them.  We couldnt wait to meet them.
But that was not to be.
We were devastated at the loss.  In our minds, they were already Gilbartes, we pleaded with God to change the hearts of those who said no to the adoption.  But the Lord's ways are higher than our own.  He had another plan.  A perfect plan, one that we could't yet see.
As we waited, to hear something our spirits were heavy, but we trusted that God had a plan.
And then, we saw the faces of our new son and daughter/ brother and sister!  A three year old boy, and new born little girl.

Our story is not yet over, and we are very excited to see what other adventures the Lord will have us go on!
