Kaden and Bethany Quotes (#24-25 and #9)

I thought I'd lighten up my writing a bit by throwing in some cute Bethany and Kaden quotes.
Enjoy!

In the car one day,
Kaden was talking on and on about how much he wanted to buy baby clothes for himself.
As hard as we tried to explain that there simply were not baby-style clothes made for a nearly 6 year old boy, he would not be stopped.
"We can buy yots of clothes!" he said,
"Mommy fings, and baby fings for me.  I'll buy a crib and a swing... and diapers!"
(Kaden adores baby diapers)
"We can look on the computer when we get home!
Right Mom?"
By this time most of us were tuning him out; still he continued:
"Right, Dad?"
"Right Defany?"
"Right Brittany?"
"Right...?" and with a big sigh: "Oh well."

Tonight after dinner, Bethany found a lady bug, and was enjoying showing it to everyone.
She showed it to Brandon, Whitey (our dog), me, and my mom.
When Mom said it, she smiled and said,
"Aw, he's a-dori-ble!"
"Yes!" Bethany agreeded, "him is a-dori-ble!"

My mom and I were working on my history for the week.
It was rough, because I hadn't reviewed the material since Christmas break started, and didn't really remember any of it.
I thrive on writing intensive work, not just reading and answering question.
I tried to explain that the text book I was using just wasn't working for me.
"This isn't how I'm wired, Mom," I said, "I just cant learn like this."
Then, from across the room, I hear Kaden yell,
"Sure you can, Brittany!  Sure you can!"

Christmas with Kaden

One day my mom came down stairs to find Kaden busily occupied with something a little out of the ordinary.
This is what she saw:
A Nutcracker tied up with white yarn to bulldozer,
and Playmobile Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus in a rescue boat.

"Kaden, what is this?" she asked.
"Well," he replied, "Him, (pointing to the nutcracker) Him made bad choices, so him had to go to jail."

Then Mom turned to Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus.
Turns out, this year they're speeding away to escape Herod in a rescue raft.

Hmmmm... What do I make of this?
All I know his that Kaden has a wonderful imagination!

Bethany and Kaden Conversations

Kaden is all about being the police man of the family.
He has decided it is his job to make sure everyone in the family "Does good choices".
Yesterday I was typing up some school work on the computer when I overheard Kaden talking to Bethany.
He had her sitting down in front of him, his pretend handcuffs on her wrists.
The toy of offense was next to them, and Kaden had a serious frown on his face.
The conversation went something like this:
Kaden:  why you do bad choices, Defany?
Bethany:  Me wanted to play with this.
Kaden:  but I was playing with it first.
Bethany:  No, me was.
Kaden:  No, I.
Mom: Kaden, do you want a snack?
Kaden:  Wust a minute, Mom!  Defany, don’t do bad choices, ok? You not want to go to jail.
Bethany: (sighing) ok.

I completely cracked up hearing this!
Sometimes I forget how absolutely hilarious these conversations are when I hear them several times a day.
I need to take a minute and simply enjoy the stage we are at now as a family.
I love it!

Whitey

When I was 2, I begged for a dog.
I was always told, "When you're eight you can get one, when you're eight."
8 years old could come fast enough for me.
Finally it happened, and now, nearly 8 years into life with Whitey, I can more clearly see the pros and cons of our dog.
Pro:
He's usually a sweet dog.
Con:
He doesn't like kids he doesn't know, and will growl at them.
Pro:
He doesn't bite (usually).
Con:
His growl scares little kids.
Pro:
He likes to snuggle
Con:
He won't usually come when called.
Pro:
he's an easy dog to have around the house.
Con:
When he's mad, he'll raid the trash cans...and our guests suitcases.
 (sorry about your hat, Pop!)

I don't think I'll get another dog after Whitey.
I've learned that dogs are a large responsibility and take work and time.
I am very thankful, though, that my parents gave me the opportunity to have a dog and learn what it is like.
Whitey is like my baby, and I'm thankful for my him and the learning opportunity he has provided.

Conversations Today

After lunch, Kaden asked to rinse the dishes.
While that job is somewhat a chore for us older kids,
the younger ones view it as a treat.
This is the conversation I heard between Bethany and Kaden while I was cleaning up:

"Defany, will you help me?" asked Kaden sweetly.
"No," Bethany answered and began to walk away.
"Defany, please?"
"Ok!"
"Defany, every time you go away.  Why you do 'dat?"
"Omm... Ka-Ka, let's play toys!"
"Ok! (gasp) Defany, let's play rescue!"
"Yay!"

Too funny and cute!

Cousins Visit September, 2014

Last week our cousins came to visit!
We had such an awesome time with them!
We were very busy the entire time and had our day pack full of fun.
Kaden and Emily are best friends, and they had an awesome time together.
The rest of the bigger kids rip-sticked, played football, four-square, cards, board games, and swam.
I enjoyed all of those things as well, but always managed to find time to squeeze in photography!

Oh, Kaden and Emily.... You two crack me up!
Kaden with straight hair... too funny!
Nutty buddies!
the mustang was a hit!  Everyone loves it!
Bethany and that crazy hippo.  sometimes we all want to throw it out the window.
Quintin
thanks so much for coming to see us, Gilbartes!
We had a blast!

David's Birthday Gift

David will turn 10 in a few days!
For his birthday, he, my dad, and Brandon got to do something really special.
You only turn 10 once you know!
Brandon and David have never been on a plane before, and they both really wanted to.
Turns out there is a private pilot at our church, one willing to take 3 people on a plane ride... And we had takers!

Kaden was disappointed he didn't get to go, as the rest of us were.
But they got to fly over the house which was super cool!
The boys - about to board!
Mom, Bethany, Jon and Kaden are looking at the picture of the boys about to board the plane.
There they are!
hi guys!

This is a birthday experience I'm sure David will never forget!
Happy 10th, David!

And Then We Walked Home

In the last post I said that we had had a pretty exciting week,
but now I'm beginning to realize that we have a pretty exciting life!

Here's the story...

Sunday night we went to a park to play tennis and hang out.
We had a great time!
I took a lot of pictures,
we played,
we ate dinner,
and we had fun.

Yep, that's Mom!  Isn't she beautiful?
Whitey came too!
After a little while of playing tennis, we walked over to the play ground.
Bethany and Kaden played, and then Bethany began holding her thumb.
This has happened 3 times now,
the first time at the beach,
the second time 2 weeks ago,
this Sunday,
and yesterday.
She bends her thumb and then can't - or wont - unbend it, saying that it hurts.
She kept saying she "wanted to go to the dentist".
As sorry as we were for her, we got a good laugh out of her dentist/doctor mix up.
Anyway,
we decided that Mom should take Bethany home,
and so she left.

crocs and socks. Gotta love it!
Brandon and Dad played for about 10 minutes and then we decided to head home too.
But the keys... where were they?
After a while we figured out that they  were in the trunk of the car.
that Mom just drove home.
Dad borrowed a phone, (his was in the locked car) and called mom, but got no answer.
The kids (me included!) were excited, what an adventure to walk home!
Dad not so much, but he was willing to and we didn't have much of another choice.
So we walked home!
We took this right before leaving, to WALK home!

Thankfully, we knew a way home that would keep us off the busy streets, and we were only about 1.5 miles away from our house.
As strange as it sounds, we had fun!

What about you all?
Do you have any "lost the keys" stories?

Week Review, and Kaden Quote #20

We've had a pretty exciting week!

Our cousins and grandparents came,
we celebrated a birthday,
we've enjoyed popsicles,
we had a water fight,
a watermelon began growing in our yard,
I began to exercise again,
and Kaden learned how to do a front flip!

And all mixed into our week were Bethany and Kaden Quotes,
sick kids,
laughs,
the regular tantrums,
and teachable moments.
The week has had some rough places, as all weeks do.
But I prefer to focus on the good things when I write blog posts,
so for now I'll stick to those.

I've also been tinkering with camera settings.
Adjusting the focus and playing with the settings.
Also just using the preset settings!  (hey, they work!)

and the watermelon...
So this story goes back about 4 summers ago.
We were eating watermelon outside,
and one of us (we disagree on who!) spit a seed into the rocks.
Next summer a mystery plant started to grow.
This is the 3d year that it has come back, and its fun to watch it day by day!

And there is Kaden and his #20th Kaden quote!
This one happened last night after he finished dinner.
I was cleaning him up a little when he suddenly said,
"Brittany, I love you."
I said, "thank you, Kaden. I love you too.  It makes me happy when you say that."
"Jesus happy when we say nice things?"
"yes."
"It's against God's law to say bad things, right?"
"Yes, I think so."
then, with the shrug of his shoulders,
"I just know my Bible!" and he turned and walked away.
And speaking of Kaden,
he learned how to do a front flip!
He, along with the rest of us, are really excited about it.

More to come about our week later.
How's yours going?

Bethany Quote 6

Dad heard this Bethany quote,
and told us about it tonight.
Bethany is sorta-kinda potty training.
Sometimes she has a diaper, sometimes she doesn't.
On this particular afternoon she didn't, and was playing outside.
My dad walked out into the garage and saw a big puddle of water.
He saw a water bottle turned over and thought maybe the water was from that.
After cleaning it up, he went to find Bethany.
"Bethany," he asked, "did you spill your water?"
"No." she answered, "pee-pee!"

Bethany Quote 4

One day after lunch, Brandon was sitting on the back of a chair - a place that wasn't meant for sitting.
"Mommy, look!" Bethany said, pointing.
"I see," Mom said, "Brandon's sitting on the back of the chair, just like he's not supposed to."
Bethany ran to the chair and climbed up.
"Mommy!" she said, "me too!"

I'm learning

I have learned many things by being a big sister.
I've learned how to hold, feed, change, rock and play with a baby.
I've learned that it is sometimes better to be silly then serious, or vise versa.
I have learned that I need to always think before I speak if what I'm about to say is questionable.
One thing it has taken me a long time to learn, however, is that I need to lock the bathroom door unless I want unexpected visitors.
One day Bethany walked in.
"Close the door, please, Bethany."  I asked.
the response? an unhesitating and firm, "NO!"
the second time it was Kaden.
"Kaden, close the door."
his response?  "Why?"
Well that's the life of a big sister!
